Year 12 PPE Information - April 2025
We wish all our Year 12 students well in the upcoming PPEs: the next step on their journey to success. They have worked so hard to reach this point and have been an absolute credit to MHS. We are looking forward to seeing them show off what they've learned.
Please support your daughter/son in checking in with them to see their revision timetable over the holidays. I have suggested that all of them take a well-deserved break for at least one week before starting little and often revision sessions in the week before we return.
To support them further, we have collapsed Assembly, VESPA, Enrichment (inc. Jacari) during PPE week, meaning they have no extra commitments on Tuesday and Wednesday morning and evening. This will reduce their cognitive load and allow them to focus fully on exams.
They still need to attend school and all lessons as normal. They will have teacher-led or personal revision time during those lessons.
Timetable arrangements
The PPEs will take place in the main school sandwich space (opposite room 3). They will meet at the bench area opposite the attendance office before entering the room. Students with access arrangements will be informed of their locations and we will be as consistent as possible for all students so that the arrangements for their PPEs match their eventual final examinations.
Students should arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the PPE, and they will follow their school timetable when not attending an examination; attendance to all non-exam affected lessons is compulsory. They can bring revision material to use in these lessons.
All examinations will start and end within the timings of the school day; including those where students have extra time access arrangements. All morning examinations will start at 8.45am. All afternoon examinations will start at 1pm. Students will go to lunch at the earlier time of 12.20pm on the days they have an exam.
If this causes any difficulties, please either contact our SENDCo via mhs-senco@mhs.e-act.org.uk or Head of Sixth Form Caroline McClean caroline.mcclean@mhs.e-act.org.uk and alternative arrangements can be made.
Checklist for parents/carers:
- Ensure your child fully understands the pre-public examination timetable and the nature of taking formal examinations. Phones and watches (of any kind) must not be taken with them into the examination room.
- Punctuality to all examinations is very important. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the examination (8.30am latest in the morning, 12.50 in the afternoon) and ensure all items are stored in V6 before coming to the main school site for examinations.
- Check that your child creates a revision timetable and adheres to it.
- Encourage your child to make full use of teachers, tutors, interventions, revision guides and resources available to them.
- All relevant equipment for examinations is available and in a clear pencil case (e.g. mathematics equipment and scientific calculator – without a lid). A small, clear water bottle with a small top opening (no large water bottles) is allowed in the examination room. This must have no label or writing on it and the lid must be a small opening to the bottle.
- Your child must wear their lanyard and have their ID card available for our invigilator team who will be running the PPEs.
Please don't hesitate to email if you have any queries about the process - Jack.Greenwood@mhs.e-act.org.uk
